KnitMesh Technologies establish research programme with The University of Liverpool

KnitMesh Technologies, the specialist knitted wire design, development and manufacturing company, is working with The University of Liverpool to improve knitted mesh design using cutting-edge neural networking techniques.

In seeking an organisation that would be able to provide high levels of academic support to its already extensive research and development capabilities, the knitted wire business explored the services offered by several leading UK universities.

The University of Liverpool was chosen for its world class Engineering Research capabilities, and most specifically for it’s reputation as a world-leader in Mechanical Engineering.

Combining our manufacturing expertise with the university’s academic capabilities will enable us to create new mesh products to meet the most challenging of design criteria.

“The use of a neural network,” he added, “will bring advanced engineering techniques to the mesh development process, and enable us to develop solutions that meet the widest range of weight, cost and performance objectives in extremely short lead times.”

A new appointment to the team, Gopal Chinnaswamy, who is from an academic engineering research and design background, will be working full time on the project, supported by a team of world class academics at the University.

Committed to Research & Development

KnitMesh Technologies is well known for its commitment to Research & Development. In recent months the organisation has invested in a state-of-the-art compression testing machine to collect a wealth of testing data and carry out compression testing, tensile testing, cyclic testing and fatigue testing to each customer’s most specific requirements.

Other recent investments include advanced flow-test facilities and fatigue test equipment to enable the performance of mesh solutions to be tested up to 1000°C over millions of cycles.

The company has also invested in three new high volume wire mesh knitting machines, a new mesh-processing machine and a new mesh development machine.
